Brief Bio: |
| I am a nurse scientist, entrepreneur, U.S. Army veteran and a life-long learner. I have diverse interests from healthcare to engineering to off-grid alternative energy.
During my graduate work I attended the Summer Genetics Institute (SGI) in Bethesda, MD at the NIH. I also completed an interdisciplinary specialization in college and university teaching to help prepare for a faculty role.
The purpose of my research program is to investigate how effective nursing care interventions and healthcare outcomes can be improved and/or enhanced through the increased use of technology. My interest is focused on three intersecting areas of technology implementation 1) Technology integration in the classroom to improve nursing student preparation for transition to professional practice, 2) Leveraging genetic/genomic technologies to improve individualize healthcare delivery and disease detection, and 3) Application of clinical technologies to improve daily living and prevent disability in vulnerable patient populations.
Through my research I have developed a community data collection application to connect community members with healthcare services. I an currently pursuing 2 patent applications for technology developments related to my research and have received grant money to develop a commercialized version of my research products
I teach at all levels of nursing education (undergrad, master, doctoral, continuing education, RN completion) but currently teach Graduate classes in pathophysiology, informatics, leadership, curriculum design and DNP Scholarly project.
I provide service in a variety of capacities including as a faculty senator, chair of university academic technology, member of graduate council and graduate petitions, chair of College of health curriculum, and both school of nursing graduate curriculum and technology committees.
I have provide leadership as the interim graduate program director in the School of Nursing, the RN Refresher coordinator and the program administrator for the nursing accreditation.
I enjoy working with graduate students including serving on doctoral committees both in nursing and in other colleges. |
