Brief Bio: |
| Lori Lundeen-Smith, M.S., CCC-SLP, MT-BC, Assistant Professor of Practice and Clinical Manager for the CSU Music Therapy Program, previously served as a program administrator, clinical supervisor/manager, clinical music therapist, and music therapy supervisor/internship director for over 30 years within the Center for Music Therapy at The Music Settlement in Cleveland. She is also a licensed speech-language pathologist in the state of Ohio, and has worked in both private practice and educational settings in that capacity.
Professor Lundeen-Smith's interests as an educator focus upon the supervision and training of pre-professional and professional music therapists in educational, medical, and community-based settings with an emphasis upon successful collaboration and co-treatment with other healthcare professionals. She has been engaged in clinical treatment for clients and patients of all ages experiencing a wide variety of life challenges in diverse settings. Her clinical experience, as well as her track record in developing effective music therapy programming with community partners throughout the Greater Cleveland area, are foundational to her work as Clinical Manager for the CSU Music Therapy Program. Professor Lundeen-Smith's clinical research and professional writing interests as a dually certified music therapist and speech-language pathologist revolve around evidence-based treatment for individuals diagnosed with ASD, communication delays and disorders, as well as effective collaboration between music therapists and speech-language pathologists. She has also been privileged to provide services, supervise clinicians, and contribute to research initiatives in settings where adult and pediatric patients were receiving medical music therapy services. She is a frequent conference speaker and consultant, and is also a published author.
Professor Lundeen-Smith is currently serving the profession of music therapy on the Board Development Committee for the Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT), the only organization responsible for certification and recertification of music therapists nationally. She served as Chairperson of the CBMT Board of Directors from 2016 to 2018, during the final two years of a 5-year appointment to the board. Her service to the profession also includes appointments to both the original Autism Task Force of the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) as well as the more recent Strategic Priority on Autism Advisory Team.
