Dr. Braziunaite focuses her research on news media and aims at developing an understanding of how the media function to constrict, manipulate, or simply form our attitudes, values, and knowledge about the world. Her dissertation project took a comparative approach to examine news framing of prisoner abuse scandals during the war in Iraq. She applied the constructivist approach to scrutinize the news frames which might have contributed to interpreting the events in a particular manner. This study examined how U.S. and British media framed coverage of prisoner abuses committed by U.S. and British military forces in Iraq. The study explored and theorized about the realm of political communication and media coverage of an international conflict as well as presented an examination of an intricate impact of cultural context on news media behavior within national settings.
Her other research projects include a study of journalism professionalism, international news coverages and cultural influences on media and organizational life in general. She has presented her research at regional, national, and international conferences. Her research appeared in Journal of Communication Studies, Journal of Intercultural Communication Research and Atlantic Journal of Communication.
