Brief Bio:
Dr. Sahley has an undergraduate degree in physiological psychology from The Ohio State University, and two Master's degrees, one in Psychobiology and one in Clinical Audiology from Bowling Green State University of Ohio. His dissertation was conducted at Dartmouth Medical School, Hanover New Hampshire, and he received a Doctorate Degree in Hearing Science from the joint programs at The Universities of California in Santa Barbara (UCSB) and San Francisco (UCSF) Medical Center, in 1991. Dr. Sahley completed a Clinical Internship (CCC-A) at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation and is presently a Professor of Audiology and Auditory Neuroscience in The School of Health Sciences, with an adjunct appointment in Biology. Dr. Sahley began publishing articles on peptide neuropharmacology in 1976, and is presently investigating the role played by opioid peptides, glutamate, and glutamate-sensitive NMDA receptors in peripheral tinnitus. Results of his work have been presented at State, National (28) and International meetings (8), and he is cited in reputable Neuroscience journals and in textbooks from reputable authors. Dr Sahley teaches advanced courses in Physiology, Neuroscience, Research and Design, and Hearing Science. He has conducted pharmacological research in rodents for over thirty years, with a twenty year emphasis on auditory-system physiology. He completed a textbook in 2015 with Dr. Frank E. Musiek, entitled: Basic Fundamentals in Hearing Science; Plural Publishing: San Diego. (ISBN: 978-1-59756-549-3). He has also organized a team of scientists (see below under collaborators) to investigate a novel neurochemical model of inner ear inflammation involving dynorphin opioid peptides, some of which was included in a work published in Brain Research (2013).
