Brief Bio:
Monica Gordon Pershey, Ed.D., CCC-SLP, is a Professor in the Communication Sciences and Disorders Department, College of Health Sciences. She has been a faculty member at CSU since 1995.  

Dr. Gordon Pershey is the author of over 300 publications and presentations related to children's language and literacy development and to professional issues in speech-language pathology and education, as well as other topics in the fields of communication sciences and disorders and literacy education. She has published in Cogent Medicine, Preventing School Failure, Journal of Interactional Research in Communication Disorders, Journal of Visual Impairment and Blindness, Language Awareness, Contemporary Issues in Communication Sciences and Disorders, Journal of Speech Pathology and Audiology, ASHA SIG 11 Perspectives on Supervision, eHearsay (Journal of the Ohio Speech-Language-Hearing Association), Perspectives on Language and Literacy (International Dyslexia Association), Buros Mental Measurements Yearbook, and numerous other journals. She has presented her research at numerous conferences, including the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, the American Educational Research Association, the International Dyslexia Association, the International Systemic Functional Linguistics Congress, the International Literacy Association, and others.

Among her past projects, she investigated the perspectives of adults with autism who are artists, funded by the CSU Faculty Scholarship Initiative.

Dr. Gordon Pershey is currently on the editorial board for Perspective in Language and Literacy, published by the International Dyslexia Association. She served as coordinator of the ASHA SIG 10 Higher Education Special Interest Group and as an accreditation site visitor for the Council on Academic Accreditation in Communication Sciences and Disorders. She served as chair of the Professors of Reading Teacher Educators Special Interest Group of the International Literacy Association. She was the president of the Northern Ohio Branch of the International Dyslexia Association. She is licensed by the state of Ohio as a speech-language pathologist, holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, and held licensure as a school speech-language pathologist and reading teacher.

Dr. Gordon Pershey previously provided speech-language pathology clinical services as a staff member at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center and currently maintains a private practice that offers language and literacy assessments for individuals and provides consultation in language and literacy programming and services for schools and agencies.
