Brief Bio:
Dr. Tsagaris is an Assistant Professor in the School of Social Work. Prior to his appointment, he was a Visiting Assistant Professor, an Adjunct Professor and Part-time Instructor/Lecturer in the School of Social Work at Cleveland State University (CSU). He began teaching several undergraduate classes in 1992, primarily in the criminal justice sequence. He later began teaching undergraduate courses in policy, Interventions II (macro practice) and Integrative Seminar II (a capstone course).  

Dr. Tsagaris began teaching graduate courses in 2000. He has taught over 15+ undergraduate and graduate courses at Cleveland State University, as well as undergraduate and graduate courses for other universities.

Dr. Tsagaris has served as the Curriculum Chair for the School of Social Work several consecutive years.  He was the lead faculty member in the 4-to-3 credit hour conversion. He was curriculum chair when the School¿s social work program revised its MSW curriculum. Dr. Tsagaris has served on search committees. He is currently a member of the CLASS Dean's Diversity Council. Dr. Tsagaris conducts Social Work licensure workshops. He has served as Coordinator for Continuing Education.

Dr. Tsagaris served as President of the National Court Services Association (NJCSA). He has developed national two-week training modules on supervision and staff development sponsored by NJCSA funded by the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Program, Department of Justice. He has done consulting for the OJJDP state advisory groups in juvenile justice with a national consulting firm.

Prior to his academic career, Dr. Tsagaris has more than 34+ years of practice experience in juvenile justice. He was Deputy Chief Probation Officer at the Juvenile Division of Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas. He was responsible for probation supervision, day reporting, community service, and female gender specific programming, and probation training. He was involved in all new probation services programming including school probation. He has written grants in the areas of faith-based services, early release of serious offenders, as well as training grants for juvenile court staff.

Dr. Tsagaris also held the position of senior trainer/assistant training director in staff development and training, responsible for court wide training. He coordinated training activities within several departments which included the design, development of management training, specialized training in family therapy and counseling. He developed and monitored training grants. He has worked as a court diversion social worker and juvenile probation officer, employee relations manager, and served as acting EEO Coordinator.  Dr. Tsagaris also did community planning in a United Way Agency in Michigan, and held internships for Geauga County Mental Health and Mental Retardation (648) Board and the Federation for Community Planning now known as Community Solutions.
Honors and Awards:
Dr. Tsagaris has received several leadership awards from professional associations including the Greater Cleveland Chapter of American Society of Training and Development (ASTD) having served as Chapter President, Vice-President/Program Development, and Secretary. Under his leadership, the Cleveland Chapter received regional leadership awards for achievement in the areas of programming, communications and service.

He also received community awards for his involvement with community activities such as Clergy United, and his ethnic affiliation with the Chios Society of Cleveland, Chapter #7, and serving as President of the John M. Manos Cleveland Chapter #36, American Hellenic Educational Association (AHEPA), and has served on national boards.
Research Interests:
Dr. Tsagaris has research interests in adult offenders with developmental disabilities, sex trafficking, juvenile justice, and curriculum development.

Diversity, disparities, racism and discrimination, leadership and management, supervision and staff development, macro practice, human behavior and the social environment - large systems, program evaluation, social work policy.
