| Brief Bio: | ||
| Professor Kalir is a Senior Clinical Professor of Law, and the Director of the Appellate Practice Clinic at CSU College of Law. He also currently serves as the Dean¿s Scholar.
His teaching areas include Contracts, Legal Ethics, and Federal Courts. As a clinical professor, together with his students, Professor Kalir represents underprivileged communities before several courts of appeals, including the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the Ohio 8th District Court of Appeals. In this capacity, the Clinic has secured several reversals in appellate courts on issues ranging from crimigration (criminal-immigration) to constitutional Double-Jeopardy, and from ineffective-assistance-of-counsel to innocence claims, among others. Professor Kalir¿s scholarship focuses on Supreme Court practice; statutory interpretation; LGBTQ+ rights; and Jewish Law. It appeared in the Notre Dame Law Review Online; the Notre Dame Journal of Law, Ethics, and Public Policy; the Wake Forest Law Review Online; and the Columbia Transnational Law Review. Professor Kalir is frequently invited to share his thoughts in published media ¿ including the New York Times, Newsweek, Business Insider, and many others. In addition, he frequently authors Op-Eds for the Plain Dealer here in Cleveland. Professor Kalir was born and raised in Israel, where he completed a full military service before attending Law School at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. Following his graduation, he successfully argued several cases before the Israeli Supreme Court, and worked for all three branches of the Israeli Government before moving to New York in 1998. Following studying and teaching at Columbia Law School, and working for private practice in New York ¿ mainly for Skadden, Arps ¿ Kalir moved to Cleveland and joined the CSU College of Law faculty in 2012. | ||
